Beginner's Upholstery Courses

Based in Shropshire, and guided by Rebecca, our beginner’s upholstery classes allow you to experience the joy of transforming raw materials into a beautifully finished piece of furniture.

These upholstery workshops are designed to immerse you in the creative process, where you’ll learn the techniques and skills needed to make your very own piece of furniture.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience with upholstery, our workshops are both enjoyable and educational. You’ll receive personalised instruction in a supportive environment, ensuring you build confidence in your abilities as you progress.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a custom piece of furniture that you can proudly display in your home, as well as a newfound appreciation for the art of upholstery.

An upholstery workshop perfect for beginners

If you’re looking to learn a new skill, this is a real hands-on and fun introduction to the world of upholstery.

Don’t worry, no previous upholstery experience is required, and class sizes are kept to a minimum of four to ensure everyone gets plenty of 1:1 tuition and gets the most out the day.

We will guide you through the process where you will learn a range of upholstery techniques. At the end of the day, you will take away a step-by-step guide on everything you have mastered along with the beautiful piece of furniture you have created for your home.

Two upholstery workshops to choose from

Cylinder Footstool

The cylinder stool is a fabric covered pouffe with a piped edge with a multitude of uses.  It can be used to sit at a dressing table, as an extra seat in the living room or as a side/coffee table.

You can mix and match the fabric on the top and sides if you’re looking for all out maximalism, or just keep it nice and simple and use a self or complimenting colour for the piping. It’s your stool so you get to choose – if you want to let your creative side run wild, this is the perfect time.

See below for upcoming dates.

Finished dimensions: 49cm high x 35cm or 40cm diameter

Fabric required: 1.5 metres

Contemporary Footstool

A great addition to your home, which can be used for putting your feet on or as it has a flat top can also be used as a coffee table.

  • The footstool has a plain top and piped detail around the edge
  • The legs are a round tapered wooden leg which can be waxed depending upon the colour of your fabric
  • You are free to go wild with your fabric, mix and match the top and sides or keep it nice and simple with a self or complimenting colour on the piping – it’s your footstool so you get to choose

See below for upcoming dates.

Finished dimensions: 50cm length x 80cm wide x 34cm height

Fabric required: 1.5 metres

What you'll learn during your upholstery class...

By immersing yourself in every step of the process you will learn:

  • How to use upholstery tools and materials
  • How to staple webbing/hessian/foam to the frame
  • How to measure and plan your fabric
  • How to pattern match fabric
  • How to make and attach piping
  • How to pleat corners and finish off
  • How to attach feet

And don’t panic, Rebecca will be with you every step of the way, guiding you and supporting you to create your finished piece.

All tools will be provided.

You will also need to bring a piece of fire-retardant upholstery fabric of your choice (amount will be dependent upon the course you’re attending – see above for details). Alternatively, you can order your fabric through us and free samples can be sent to you directly before you order.
